How to Texture a Business Card Like Cardboard in Adobe Photoshop

Today’s society values having business cards. But how can you distinguish your business cards from the rest? Printing your business card on multiple materials, such as cardboard, leather, or metal, is simple.

Even though this is a straightforward concept, some people might not have enough money to print their cards on pricey paper. In this instance, a fake textured background design may be a more affordable than the expensive, heavily textured cardboard.

Business owners can use this lesson to create business cards to save even more money. This video shows you how to make a Photoshop business card that imitates a pricey textured paper business card. In this manner, standard white card material suffices.

Also, this lesson will demonstrate how to create a business card that appears to have been printed on textured cardboard.

Step 1

Open Adobe Photoshop on your computer, create a new document and set the dimensions to 14 inches wide by 8 inches high with a 72 resolution. It is preferable to design at a larger scale to be more apparent when it is complete and ready for printing.

Step 2

Choose all, then fill the entire area with the color #AAA494 or a similar shade of grey. Keep everything chosen after that, then filter the room with a cloud. You can achieve this by selecting Filter > Render > Clouds from the drop-down menu. Check for adequate contrast or change the brightness/contrast until it appears sufficiently natural.

Step 3

By selecting Filter > Noise > Add Noise and setting the parameters to 4 / Gaussian / Monochromatic, you can add some texture.

Step 4

Navigate to Filter > Blur > Motion blur, and set the Angle and Distance to 90 and 8, respectively. After applying this texture, your business card will appear made of recycled cardboard with paper fibers. Typically, paper fibers are arranged either horizontally or vertically.

Step 5

Make a Color Overlay Layer Style layer in your contact card template. To do this, go to Layer > Layer Style > Color Overlay. When the setting box appears, change the Color to #7b6d52, a brown paper color. Set the Opacity to 100% and the blend mode to Color.

Step 6

The business card template should then apply a Pattern Overlay Layer Style. Go to Layer > Layer Style > Patter Overlay to accomplish this. Change the Blend Mode to Soft Light and increase the Opacity to 75% once the options box has opened.

Selecting fibers 1 and 2 from the greyscale paper designs will enhance the textured appearance of the business card. Increase the opacity to make it as natural-looking as possible; about 85% is excellent. Set the Scale to 100 and check the box “Link to Layer.”

Step 7

A Bevel and Emboss layer will give the card a more three-dimensional appearance. Choose Bevel and Emboss under Layer > Layer Style. Set the Bevel to Inner Bevel, the method to Smooth, the Depth to 100%, the Direction to Up, the Size to 1, and the Soft to 0% once the setting box has opened. Set Angle to 120 degrees for the Shading choices, check Use Global Light, set the Altitude to 30 degrees for Gloss Contour, set Highlight Mode to Screen with an opacity of 75%, and set Shadow to Multiply mode. Ambiguity needs to be set at 30%.

Step 8

The next step is to make a new layer and embellish your business card with flecks. Flecks will give the design a more organic appearance. Click Layer > Layer Style > Pattern Overlay to accomplish this. Set the Style to a Blend Mode of Normal and its Opacity to 100 when the setting box appears. Choose the Charcoal Flecks pattern from the list of Greyscale Paper patterns.

Step 9

The effects of charcoal will be more visible after this phase. Please create a new layer and fill it with black to achieve this. Split the layer style from the layer by right-clicking the layer style icon and choosing to Create Layers. You can now erase the entirely black layer and work with the newly generated layer after the layer’s layer style has been converted into a separate layer. The Charcoal Flecks pattern will then cover the layer as a result.

Step 10

We want to enlarge that layer to make the specks appear more prominent. By hitting Ctrl+T, you may drag and enlarge the layer to make more noticeable flecks. Modify the settings of the layer to boost the contrast. Drag the right slider to the left and the center slider to the right until the background is white and the spots are visible. Then, set the layer’s Blend Mode to Multiply and lower the Fill Opacity to about 60%.

Step 11

This is essentially a repetition of Steps 9 and 10, except we add white dots to the design to increase contrast. Duplicating the Charcoal Flecks layer, inverting the colors, and setting the mode to Overlay are the quick and simple ways to accomplish this. Thus you have white specks rather than black ones. The layer should then be turned over horizontally and vertically so that the white dots are not distributed like the dark dots.

Step 12

Type the text to add to the calling card and apply a Bevel and Emboss layer style to create an embossed finish. Set the Method to Chisel Soft and the Style to Emboss.

Put 100% as the Depth setting. The angle should be 120 degrees, and the Direction should be set to Down. Use Global Light with a 30-degree altitude checkmark. Put Linear Gloss Contour to use. Set the Highlight Mode to Screen. Shadow Mode should be set to Multiply with a 75% Opacity for each.

Simply create the desired forms, turn them into paths, and then apply “stroke path” with any color you like to create shapes on the business card that appears letter-pressed. After rasterizing the layer, follow the same Bevel and Emboss layer style instructions as with the prior typography.

Step 13

Add a red border to the lower half of the contact card for additional designs. Create a new layer, select an area of roughly an inch, and then fill it with color to create the border. The selected region can be colored using the paintbrush; then, multiply the color and set the layer’s opacity to roughly 75%.

Step 14

Finally, you can add more text to the red border to balance things.
